What we store about you

Your email address, and a display name and avatar if you signed in with GitHub. That's the whole account. There is no password, because there is no password login.

Votes and notes are stored with your account and the IP address they came from. The IP is there to catch vote rings and nothing else; it is never shown to anyone but us.

What we send you

Sign-in links you asked for, badge-check notices about your own listings, launch notices when your issue goes out, and payment receipts. There is no newsletter and no marketing email to account holders.

Cold outreach

We do invite makers whose apps we find on other public directories. If you got one of those: it came once, we won't follow up, and the unsubscribe link in it removes your address permanently — including from any future scrape. You can also write to hello@hatchdir.com and we'll suppress an address by hand.

We only ever use addresses a site publishes for contact. We don't guess addresses, buy lists, or scrape social profiles.

Our crawler

hatchdir-bot fetches listed landing pages to check for the badge, and reads public directory pages to find apps. It honours robots.txt and waits between requests. Full description here, including how to block it.

Third parties

Payments go through Stripe, which sees your card details — we never do. Email is sent through Amazon SES. Uploaded logos and screenshots are stored in private object storage. There is no analytics script, no advertising network and no third-party cookie on this site.

Your data

Email hello@hatchdir.com to get a copy of everything we hold on you, correct it, or delete your account. Deleting an account removes your votes and notes; a live listing is unpublished rather than erased, so the issue it appeared in stays intact.
